WINNER: CLIO AWARDS STATUE / First idea to win a global award in Mets 60-year history
For their 60th anniversary, rather than sending season-ticket-holders the usual box of tickets most sports teams send, the mission was to reward devout fans with something unconventionally surprising. Something that pays homage to 60 years of franchise history on the playing field. THE SOLUTION: A Digital + Tangible experience that inspired fans to revisit the package time and time again–which led to massive earned media buzz and jealousy amongst fans of all different sports.

Created exclusively for season ticket holders, the mission was to go premium and far away from the traditional blue & orange colors fans expect. Inspired by iconography of the New York City Subway which leads to the ballpark, the black-on-black art direction was printed on soft-touch stock with metallic silver foil. Came with matching commemorative ticket & phone charger so your digital tickets are always accessible. (Awarded the highest honor of Platinum at the Graphis package design competition and was the only entry from a sports team in the world to be recognized at the Clio Awards)
(MEDIA: Event Film & Social Media) Film welcoming new ALS Association (Lou Gehrig's Disease) supporter–legendary baseball hall of famer Sandy Koufax.
A logo for a professional baseball team is different than a logo for anything else. A Logo becomes the definitive identifier of the event, player, organization, co-branding partnership, team store and are ultimately the pillars of a much bigger merchandising machine that generates a large portion of the team’s revenue. This is not just for the moment in time the logo was created, but in many cases for posterity since certain logos become products themselves that instantly effect purchasing decisions in a fraction of a second. Unlike any other sport baseball has 162 regular season games where fans make purchasing decisions–making a logo pertaining to a Major League Baseball team that much more invaluable.

Beyond proud to be on the team who got the first statue not only in Mets history–but in New York professional sports history, created & installed. The most deserving credit goes to the incredible sculptor William Behrends who masterfully captured “The Franchise” Tom Seaver’s iconic knee-drag pitching delivery. In addition to helping nail down the precise art direction of the pose, I’m happy to have laid out all type for both plaques. And it was my idea to prominently include Seaver’s name around the base so future generations know who the greatest Mets player in history is.
